My Apple Experience - Part 0.5

My Laptop has been shipped yay! and it only has to make it's way to me from... Shanghai...China... No wonder my Laptop is taking forever to get here! Really Apple? China?! Could you have picked a farther away sounding country? Nothing is more upsetting to an impatient American waiting for something to arrive then to hear it is in China. I shudder at the thought of how long would have it taken to get to me if I hadn't paid extra and how much of what I am buying was made in China? Is the only benefit to the US of me buying this product go to Apple Stockholders and FedEx for shipping my product?

My Apple Experience - Part 0

I have decided an Apple product and not an iPod. I purchased a Macbook Pro and I decided to write about my entire experience the good and the bad.

I have not yet received my Mac but since I had such a good experience, I am going to go over the purchasing of the product.

I walked into the Mac store just to check the product out and it was nice. The sales man did his job well and it is obvious they don't get paid commission. I wanted something that was only offered online and he pointed me straight to the website. I walked out buying nothing and feeling no pressure.

Purchasing online was a breeze and I even got some pretty nice financing options. I thought since I was getting something I might as well get something top of the line. I even spent $18 for speedier shipping. I am excited!

Pro's:
  • Quick. easy, and relatively pain free. I was even able to change the shipping address in less then 10 minutes (before the item shipped of course).
  • I have the feeling that what I am getting something top of the line and I will no longer have any of the woes that I have had with other computer purchases.
Con's:
  • Price tag: I know I am getting something top of the line but still it hurts to think about how much I actually spent on this. I was able to use a $700 laptop for 5+ years my new laptop had better last! spending an extra $250 ish for better support later on almost added insult to injury but I still have the feeling this money not wasted.
  • I walked out the apple store with nothing! Come on guys what is the use of having a brick and mortar store if I am going to walk out of there with nothing? I am not saying pressure me into buying something i don't want but have what I want at the store. now I have to wait for shipping which brings me to my next point
  • even paying the extra for faster shipping I still have to wait close to a week to have my product and I am willing to pay more to have it shipped faster. I don't want to be patient I want my laptop NOW! *throws tantrum*
Side note: I am very concerned about being upset in a couple of months because they will come out with a better product and if I had only waited I could have bought it. Seriously I had a dream last night that could only be described as Steve Jobs dangling a I7 chip in front of me on a stick and having me chase after it.

review of sweeny todd: 1.5 out of 5

I want to start off by saying that I did not like this movie before I even saw it and that might have something to do with the review. When I decided to go with my love on opening night I really was hoping I was going to be wrong about Tim Burton's movie Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and that it was going to be a good film and not too comically bloody and not have a whole lot of actors singing badly. I am sorry to say I was right.

I wish I had written it down but when I first saw the previews, and my love can attest, I said "Its going to be a bad movie. It's going to be a Tim Burton does Quentin Tarantino" and it was badly so. A whole 15 - 20 minutes of the movie is the Johnny Depp slitting peoples throat causing blood to gush out semi-comically so that it caused members of the theater laugh uncomfortably.

All of the gushing blood seemed to damper the singing of the actors. I have heard that Johnny Depp does not do singing parts and I now know why. The only thing Tim Burton did right was cast his wife Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Lovett the meat pie shop owner below Todd's barber shop of horrors because she seemed to know what she was doing. With lyrics throughout the movie that either made no sense or were hard to understand, put to the same song over and over and over again I really had a hard time enjoying the movie and really wanted to be somewhere, anywhere!, else.

There were some funny scenes in it and I would like to see if it was just this rendition that did it poorly or is this how its supposed to be done. I hope to see it done differently sometime maybe I will find the original melodrama.

The pros:
Helena Bonham Carter
A dark and twisted tale
a handful of funny scenes
Johnny Depp
by the end I really wanted everyone to die and it actually happened

The Cons:
Alan Rickman
inappropriate bloody scenes
completely predictable plot
Johnny Depp singing
dragging plot
lyrics that make no sense
everybody's accent made the singing hard to understand
the two and half hours of my life will never get back

I give this movie:
1.5 out of 5 necks gushing blood uncontrollably

yay! google

alright i can't sleep so i decided to type something up here. Since there is no one reading this i am not really worried about keeping up with it. things are going good for me so i decided to praise google a little bit and talk bunches about them.

google doc's and spreadsheets: 4.85 starred documents out of 5 starred documents.
  • pro's
    • its Google which means its free!
    • it definitely is a very useful way to store all of my documents and spreadsheets
      • which are now accessible from any computer
        • (I'm a little worried about privacy and security though, lets just hope that their motto sticks)

  • con's
    • spreadsheets have no ability to graph
    • because i use a laptop i can't always be on line if i want my documents while I'm off line i am SOL (gotta create SOMETHING to sync soon, crosses fingers and hopes that has something to do with the newly acquired jotspot)
    • it does something weird sometimes with the end product
      • ie printed documents turn out differently if printed through google then if printed through word and document saved as a word document is different then document
i even have plans to have it help in me review for school

well thats all the energy i have for reviewing today look for more on google when i review:
  1. gmail
  2. blogger
  3. reader
and other things not google related that i want to review
  1. lenovo laptop
  2. ubuntu linux
now i know that all zero of you that actually look at my blog care about what i say so please feel free to ask for suggestions about what you want me to talk about see you around!

Review for Windows Vista (Beta) - 3 outta 5 and thats not really it's fault!

Yay! for Windows Vista (Beta)! I haven't had this much fun poking around a $10 OS in a long time. Although it feels kinda stuck in here with not a whole lot of drivers to support my hardware or software to run it on (It makes me feel like i am using an old Mac!).

Goods:

  • Fancy graphics such as this thingy and this other thingy
  • New and less confusing looking start menu
  • more games!
Bads:
  • Those fancy graphics eat up way too many reasourses
  • Software isn't supported for Vista yet
    • Itunes doesn't support a 64 bit OS! bad Apple. BAD!
    • Google pack only supports XP!? Do i see evil in googles midst?
Alright so I have no idea how to give a good technical review for things but i try. Over all I really like the new OS and i hope that as soon as people start making software for it Vista will be a vision of tomorrow!
